Running For Your Life
Motivation, Marathons and Cancer
My friend has stage 4 cancer, now metastasized into his bones and lung. He stopped running marathons only long enough for treatment. At present, he’s been fighting, and winning for nine years. During the same time, he qualified for and ran the Boston marathon, and others, with competitive times.
It’s a miracle he’s still alive, but a bigger miracle that he continues running. He told me, “If I stop running, I’ll start dying.”
His inspiring example teaches:
- Some may know what they’re willing to die for, but, what are you willing to live for?
- When we fail to do what brings us happiness, health, or success, it may feel like we ‘start dying’ intellectually, emotionally or spiritually.
- Life is not always easy, but it is always worth it!
- You can persist and triumph through challenge.
- Keep taking one step at a time and never quit.
- Progress is the path and destination. Any forward movement is success.
- Watch for runners, it could be my persevering friend out there running for his life.
- Know that anything is possible! You, too, can do it!
- In the marathon of life, qualify yourself for greatness, run your best race, and enjoy the sacred journey.
